Artist Statement
Kimberly M. Webb is a visual artist working primarily in photography, social practice, and sculpture. She is interested in environmental and social justice, ecology, material studies, and good humor. Her work is most often collaborative, interdisciplinary, and experimental. Webb is passionate about the intersections of wellness, creativity, and sustainability.
In this, the artist’s second solo exhibition with Sean Christopher Gallery she includes Unique Cyanotype contact prints of compost on Arches Platine, Revere, and Hanemuhle Platinum 100% cotton, fine art papers (some dyed with organic black or green tea) mounted on local, fallen Elm, Ash, Cedar, Cherry, Maple, and Locust wood.
The artist is also offering framed Cyanotype Prints, a sculptural organic headdress, and a live time-based mixed media installation piece which will flower Reishi mushrooms.
A portion of sales will be donated to Earthjustice and the American Civil Liberties Union to fight for Environmental and Social Justice.
Artist Biography
Originally from the eastern shore of Maryland, Kimberly M. Webb lives and works in Columbus Ohio. She earned her BFA from The Ohio State University (2006) with a concentration in fine art photography and a minor in contemporary art history. She went on to receive an MFA from Columbus College of Art & Design (2014) with a focus on sculpture and social practice. Webb is the former Manager of Fresh A.I.R. (Artists in Recovery) Gallery and Chop Chop Gallery, and Director of the Ohio Art League. She has supported the production of exhibitions and programming at the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD), and independently with the city of Columbus, Capital Crossroads SID, COTA, and with various other artists and independent spaces. She has received grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC), CCAD, and Ohio Arts Council (OAC). In 2013, she attended Mildred's Lane (Narrowsburg, NY) with a full fellowship from CCAD. In 2015, Webb was awarded a Can Serrat Artist Residency (El Bruc, Spain), supported partly by Can Serrat and GCAC. Webb has taught camera obscura at the Wexner Center for the Arts; sculpture, social practice, and community art education at Columbus College of Art & Design; and nature-focused photography, alternative process photography, and curatorial studies with an emphasis on supporting artists’ mental health at Athens Photographic Project.
Webb has also been creating Root Dub,organic natural plant remedies in collaboration with plants for human health since 2010
